Astaxanthin for skin?
I have long been a fan of astaxanthin. It's one of the most powerful antioxidants known to man. We're talking as much as 1000 times more antioxidant capability than vitamin C, already a powerhouse. But it goes beyond that.
Astanxanthin comes from microalgae. It's what protects the microscopic water creatures from the powerful UV rays that beat down on them. So, yes, astaxanthin has the ability to protect your skin from harmful UV rays. It's also anti-inflammatory like nothing you've ever seen. It's red. In fact, it's so red that this is what makes pink flamingoes pink, from eating microalgae. Don't worry, it won't turn your skin red.
As a naturopath I am always looking for whatever nature has to give us that will improve our health. Astaxanthin in a skin cream was a no-brainer. When applied to the skin it evens skin tone, makes your skin appear healthier, getting rid fine lines and wrinkles and the antioxidants help protect against free radical damage that can lead to premature aging. If antiaging wasn't enough, it plumps and firms the skin, reduces redness associated with skin irritation and brightens the complexion giving the skin a more radiant, youthful glow.
This is why it's ingredient number one in the Pivotal Restore skin care product.
